Herring, Sand and the City’s SecretsWe meet at Posthusplatsen by Malmö Central Station, a place that once lay out in the sea and a perfect starting point for getting to know Malmö’s history. This medieval city began as a sandbank, but quickly developed thanks to its strategic location and plentiful supply of herring.
As we move into the 16th century, a great deal was happening in the city, and one of the people driving change was Jörgen Kock. We make our way to his house, and once we have got to know him a little better, we take a closer look at one of his initiatives: Stortorget. This square is full of fascinating stories and the occasional anecdote. Of course, no classic city walk is complete without a coffee break, so we settle down at a cosy café, either simply to enjoy something good or perhaps to let the stories continue there. Once we have topped up our energy, we continue to Södertull, Gustav Adolfs Torg and Kungsparken, before rounding off the tour by passing Malmö Live and enjoying a refreshment as we bring the stories together. Along the way, we will of course have passed many other details in the cityscape, but those can remain a surprise until we meet. I, Monica Åberg, guide you in my own personal way, with stories, anecdotes and details that bring the city to life. Welcome to three and a half hours of Malmö history, hidden details and Skåne storytelling. This is a city walk for anyone who wants to discover Malmö, especially visitors, but also those who already know the city well. Practical Information:
