A city walk where shipyard history meets confidence in the futureJoin Monica Travel through Dockan, Västra Hamnen and Varvstaden, where Malmö’s industrial heritage meets modern architecture and new urban spaces. This was once the site of Kockums shipyard, with the sound of hammers, ships under construction and the working lives of thousands of people. Today, the area has taken on a new shape, but its history is still present in the quays, buildings and details.
During the walk, we follow the traces of Frans Henrik Kockum and the story of how Malmö grew as an industrial city. We see how former shipyard environments have become vibrant neighbourhoods, where homes, offices, waterfront promenades and meeting places now stand side by side with history. One of the highlights of the tour is a visit to Turning Torso, designed by Santiago Calatrava. From the 54th floor, we enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Malmö, the Öresund and the city’s development, along with a refreshment. I, Monica Åberg, guide you in my own personal way, with stories, anecdotes and details that bring the area to life. Welcome to three and a half hours of shipyard history, architecture, views and Skåne storytelling. This is a city walk for anyone who wants to discover Malmö’s modern coastal districts with fresh eyes, whether you are a visitor, a curious local or already know the city well. Practical Information:
