A journey of discovery with Vikings, waves and everyday magicTrelleborg is perhaps best known for its ferries to Germany, its closeness to the continent, or simply as a town you pass through on your way somewhere else. But anyone who lives here, or knows the town a little better, knows that Trelleborg is special in many ways.
Trelleborg has been an international meeting place for more than 1,000 years. Here you find traces of the Viking Age, trade, seafaring and industrial history. Today, it is a town in constant change. Whether the Viking king Harald Bluetooth was actually here is open to debate, but the remains of a trelleborg ring fortress are here nonetheless. And that alone gives us every reason to pause and explore stories of the Viking Age, power, trade and strategic places along the coast. But Trelleborg is not only about Vikings and harbour history. The town also has an artistic soul. During the walk, we get to know Axel Ebbe, the sculptor who was born in the area and who, with humour, sensitivity and great craftsmanship, left his mark on the public space. His works give us reason to stop, smile a little and reflect on how art can make a town feel more alive and human. During the walk, we move at a gentle pace through the centre and follow the town’s development from old coastal village to modern town, where past and present meet at close quarters. I, Monica Åberg, have of course gathered stories, anecdotes and small details that bring the town to life. In my own personal way, I guide you through Trelleborg and share stories about the harbour’s importance through the ages, about people who have lived and worked here, and about details in the streetscape that we might otherwise simply pass by. This is a city walk for anyone who wants to discover Trelleborg with fresh eyes, whether you are a visitor or already know the town well. Welcome to four hours of history, sea breeze, art and Skåne storytelling. Practical Information:
